DFDS from Dover

DFDS offers several routes for crossing the Channel, connecting various ports in England and France. The most popular route is Dover to Calais, providing a direct link between the southeast coast of England and northern France. Other routes may include Newhaven to Dieppe (Check out our alternative routes) or the other route from Dover to Dunkirk.

Actual offers for this crossing from DFDS can be found here.

On these DFDS routes vehicles are mandatory

DFDS ships have designated areas for vehicles, allowing passengers to bring their cars, motorcycles, or bicycles on board.

This is particularly convenient for those planning to explore their destination or travel with their own vehicles. As a foot passenger, you are not allowed to board DFDS ferries. If you want to travel by foot, you have to sail with P&O Ferries.

DFDS Vessels

DFDS operates a fleet of modern and well-equipped vessels for Channel crossings. The ships are designed to accommodate both passengers and vehicles, providing a convenient transportation option for individuals, families, and businesses.

  • Côte des Dunes: The Côte des Dunes is a passenger and vehicle ferry that operates on the Dover-Calais route. It has a capacity for over 1,500 passengers and around 400 vehicles. More information about the vessel can be found on its Wikipedia page: Côte des Dunes.

  • Côte des Flandres: Another ferry that operates on the Dover-Calais route, the Côte des Flandres can accommodate over 1,000 passengers and approximately 200 vehicles. You can find additional details about the vessel on its Wikipedia page: Côte des Flandres.

  • Calais Seaways: The Calais Seaways is a ferry that operates on the Dover-Calais route as well. It has a capacity for over 1,000 passengers and approximately 200 vehicles. Further information about the vessel can be found on its Wikipedia page: Calais Seaways.

  • Dunkerque Seaways: The Dunkerque Seaways is a ferry that operates on the Dover-Dunkerque route. It can accommodate over 1,000 passengers and around 600 vehicles. More details about the vessel can be found on its Wikipedia page: Dunkerque Seaways.

Of course, on routes like this, ferries change, and sometimes vessels move from one port to another.

A Video about crossing the channel with DFDS

Nice takeaways from the Video:

  • If you get in first, there is a big chance you can also leave first.
  • There is a very nice breakfast on board the DFDS vessel.
  • Don’t go on the toilet just before departing if you are the first to leave
