Here you can read more on a forum about the lack of parking space at Dover. (Tripadvisor) To summarize, the ferry companies want people to travel by car instead of being a foot passenger. This resulted into the complete stop of long-term parking at the port of Dover.

It took us a while to research the best places to park your car! Two places stood out:

  1. Dover Health Care Centre Staff Parking
  2. Port Parking Ltd

Both are secure. The second one got a shuttle service to the harbor.

Dover Port Passenger Info

P&O Ferries is the only ferry service that will accept foot passengers if you plan to leave your car at Dover, but only during daytime hours.

Parking at Calais

Parking at the Port of Calais is a convenient option for travelers; however, there is currently no parking space for medium and long-term parking at the ferry terminals.

You can park for free at the beach near Calais, this is not safe and not recommended. Also, it’s not very easy to reach the terminal from the beach. if you look at other free locations and the reviews online and such: it’s completely at your own risk.

Secure Parking

There is the Polley Secured Lorry Park for trucks and lorries, which is very popular and at least secure.

During peak travel seasons, however, this parking spot is crowded, and parking spaces may be limited due to high demand. On Saturday and Sunday also this lorry park is always full. So either be on time or call them to reserve a spot.

For long-term secure parking for cars, we would go to Parking Cité Europe.

Of course, there are more secure parking spots across Calais, but most of them have bad ratings and are not secure. Something that is needed for long-term parking.

A few suggestions that might be good alternatives

  • Parking Indigo Calais Centre Ville ( Ok ratings, quite close )
  • La Londonienne – Secure Truck Parking
  • Camper spot near Rue d’Asfeld (€ 10 per night)
Overall it’s must easier to park at Calais compared to Dover.
